What is the cost of living in Amsterdam?

Q. I want to rent a small house (100m2). Rent is about 1000-1250 but I need to estimate other costs. What do I need to pay and how much? e.g. council tax, water, gas, electricity, tv licence, health insurance, road tax etc. - If you live in Holland what do YOU have to pay for each month?

A. pffff, that's a lot of rent for a small house...must be in Amsterdam... Ah, it is :)

Health insurance is about 100,- a month

TV license from about 10 to about 50 a month depending on how many channels you want... Digital TV is available...

Telephone and Internet will cost you from about 20 to 100 a month NOT including individual calls of course, depending on how much Internet bandwith you want...(national calls may be free, depending on your contract)

Water, gas and electricity about 50 to 150 a month, depending on how much you use of course...

Council tax in Amsterdam I don't know... Here in The Hague it depends on your income and the size of your house and such... Probably several hundred a year...

Road tax depends on the weight of your car... Including insurance probably around 100/150 a month or something like that... If you don't get a Grand Cherokee that is... (i'm not really sure about this, it could be more, I don't have a car. I think it's too expensive and Amsterdam/Dutch publlic transport is excellent so you don't really need a car as much as you do in the USA and we have a serious traffic/parking problem here, especially in Amsterdam, parking is VERY expensive and VERY difficult!)

Are there people who will manage my rent house for me?
Q. I have a small house that I rent out. I work all the time and do not have time to deal with tenants, finding renters, etc. Are there people who will manage the rental house for me for a fee, and how do you find them? How do they charge, etc?

A. Yes, you will find them under Property Management in yellow pages for your location.
They generally charge 10% of the gross rent. They will take care of any problems and keep your place rented also they check credit of prospective tenants.
You'll wonder how you ever managed without one!

Where is the nicest town? I want to live where people are friendly and where it's not so busy?
Q. I want to be close enough to a city but still not in the city. I need to find a small house to rent with a big backyard and in a safe and friendly neighborhood. Does anyone know of any nice safe friendly towns. I also have a dog and maybe will get another one, so I would love to live in a dog friendly area too.

Asking too much? :) Any ideas?

A. Buckeye, Arizona.

Rent a house with an acre of land and a swimming pool. Thirty miles west of Phoenix. Zip code 85326. Three black labs. Neighbors have chickens and horses. One mile from Wal Mart, supermarkets, shopping, restaurants and freeway. Safe and friendly neighborhood. I love it here.

Another nice place I visited several years ago that fits your description is Waldport, Oregon.

What do you pay for in a typical apartment rent vs a regular housing rent?
Q. I am graduating next year, and I want to know what is a reasonable price for me and my roommate to pay for rent, and also the other stuff you have to pay in an apartment vs a regular small house or trailer. Can anybody make me two lists of all you have to pay in either enviorment? Thank you!

A. We were renting at 550.00 a month. We bought a place and now pay only 100.00 more. We have a much nicer place and it is our own.
It really depends on WHERE you plan to live on how much your rent will be.
When it comes to bills there is no difference except they might be a bit higher in a house.
You will have:
Rent, groceries, electricity, heat, garbage, water, cable, phone, etc.
I hope you both have a job.
Good Luck to you both = )
